Uninstall and data deletion
What happens to your data when you uninstall Piing, including the access token, analysis records, scheduled deletion, and the shop redact webhook.
When you remove a Piing app, your data is deleted on a defined timetable. This article explains what happens and when, so you know what to expect.
At the moment you uninstall
When you uninstall an app from Shopify, Shopify notifies Piing. Piing then:
- Marks your shop as uninstalled and revokes the stored access token, so it can no longer call your store.
- Removes the active session for your shop.
- For Piing: Intelligence, deletes the analysis run records and schedules full deletion of the remaining shop data for 30 days later.
The intelligence attributes that were written to your Shopify metafields are controlled by you. Shopify removes app owned metafields as part of the uninstall flow, and you can also remove them yourself before uninstalling if you prefer.
About 48 hours after uninstall
Shopify sends a shop redact request roughly 48 hours after an app is uninstalled. When Piing receives it, it wipes the data tied to your shop. Depending on which products you used, this covers:
- Check-in, tap and event records.
- Device, reader and store configuration.
- Wallet pass instances and member links.
- Settings, mappings and audit records.
- The shop's own registry entry.
Pixel browsing data and analysis data are removed in the same cascade.
Note
Acknowledging the request is not enough on its own. Piing carries out the deletion and keeps an auditable record that it completed.
Customer deletion is separate
You do not have to uninstall to remove a single customer. Deleting a customer in your platform triggers erasure of the references Piing holds for that customer. This is covered in GDPR and your customers.
On termination of your contract
Where a written agreement is in place, the Data Processing Addendum commits Piing to delete or return personal data within 30 days of termination, unless the law requires it to be kept. Hardware you have bought remains your property.
What you may want to do first
- Export any intelligence metafields or analytics you want to keep, before you uninstall.
- Note that integration history and delivery logs age out on their own short retention windows.
If you are offboarding and need written confirmation that deletion has completed, contact us and we will provide it.
