Setup status flags
What each setup step and status means in the Piing setup wizard, and why a step may still show as not done even after you have made a change.
The setup wizard shows a status badge next to each step: "Done" or "To do". Each badge reflects real configuration in your account, not just whether you have visited the step. This article explains what each step checks and why a step might stay on "To do".
How the status is decided
When the wizard loads, it reads your account and works out the state of each step from what actually exists. A step shows "Done" only when its underlying condition is true. So clicking through a step does not mark it complete on its own; the thing the step sets up has to be in place.
The wizard is also branching. It asks what you are setting up Piing for, then shows only the steps that apply. If you choose digital wallet passes with no hardware, the hardware steps are not shown.
What each step checks
- Brand and wallet pass. "Done" when your brand has a display name and a primary colour saved.
- Connect POS locations. "Done" when at least one Shopify POS location is mapped to a store code. Single store setups can auto-map on the first tap; multi-store brands import from Shopify POS.
- Assign your reader. "Done" when at least one reader is registered, whether that is a Tap Box or another NFC reader.
- Connect your loyalty vendor. "Done" only when a real vendor is selected, not a placeholder. If the vendor is set to none, this stays on "To do".
- Connect messaging and wishlist. "Done" when a messaging tool such as Klaviyo, Attentive or Ometria is connected.
- Run a test. "Done" when at least one check-in has been recorded.
- Go live. Summarises the steps above and lets you finish setup. Finishing marks the wizard complete and hides the setup banner on the dashboard.
Why a step still shows "To do"
The usual reasons:
- The change was not saved. Make the change on the step's own page and save it, then return to the wizard.
- It is the wrong kind of record. For example, the loyalty step needs a real vendor, not a placeholder. A vendor set to none does not count.
- You are looking before the data has caught up. Reopen the wizard so it re-reads your account.
- The condition is not met yet. A reader you have ordered but not registered does not count as assigned; a test tap you have not run yet keeps the test step on "To do".
Note
A step on "To do" is not a blocker. You can skip any step and finish it later from the relevant section of the app. The wizard says as much on the final step.
Re-running the wizard
If you want to walk through setup again, open the wizard and choose to re-run it, or use Reset setup to clear the "Done" state for every step. Resetting does not delete your configuration; it only clears the wizard's completion flag so you can step through it again.
Still stuck
If a step insists it is "To do" after you have clearly completed the underlying setup, take a note of which step and what you configured, then contact us so we can check it.
