Scope
These Hardware Terms apply to all physical products supplied by Piing Technologies Ltd, company no. 17036814, registered office Radley House Ground Floor, Richardshaw Road, Leeds LS28 6LE, including NFC cards, NFC readers, the Piing Tap Box, mounting accessories, and any replacement or upgrade hardware. These terms supplement the general Terms of Service, including its acceptable use rules. Piing Technologies Ltd is not registered for VAT. This document is issued by Conor Stenner Jones, Director.
Piing hardware is optional. There are five ways a customer can be recognised in store, and four of them need no hardware from Piing at all: a kiosk on a tablet the store already owns, a printed scan-in sign, the staff view on any phone or back-office tablet, and the Piing tile in Shopify POS. The fifth is a reader at the door or the till, for linked physical cards and approved Apple Wallet VAS taps, and that is the hardware these terms cover. Nothing in these terms requires you to buy hardware to use the Piing applications.
Orders & Confirmation
Hardware orders are placed via the Piing order form, dashboard, or a signed purchase order. An order is confirmed when Piing issues an order confirmation or invoice. Prices quoted are valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise. Custom branding or non-standard configurations may require minimum order quantities.
Hardware is a one-off purchase invoiced directly by Piing. It is separate from your Piing subscription: Shopify subscriptions are charged through Shopify Billing, while Retail ID services follow their implementation agreement.
Delivery
Standard NFC cards are dispatched within 5 business days from order confirmation. Custom-branded cards typically require 2-3 weeks for production plus shipping. NFC readers and Tap Boxes are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days. All delivery timelines are estimates and not guaranteed. Piing is not liable for delays caused by shipping carriers, customs, or circumstances beyond our control.
Standard delivery is included for supported addresses in the United Kingdom, European Union and United States. Delivery elsewhere is quoted separately.
Risk & Title
Risk of loss or damage transfers to you upon delivery. Title to the hardware passes to you upon receipt of full payment. Until payment is received in full, Piing retains title and may recover the hardware.
Warranty
All Piing hardware is covered by a two-year limited warranty from the date of delivery. During the warranty period, Piing will replace hardware that fails under normal use at no additional cost, with next-business-day replacement targeted for supported delivery regions once the fault is confirmed. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and firmware issues that prevent the hardware from functioning as specified.
Warranty Exclusions
The warranty does not cover damage resulting from:
- Physical misuse, abuse, or accidental damage (drops, liquid exposure, crushing)
- Modification, tampering, or use of non-approved accessories
- Exposure to extreme environmental conditions outside published operating specifications
- Normal wear and tear, including cosmetic degradation of NFC cards
- Use with non-compatible systems or software not provided or approved by Piing
Limitation of Liability
Piing shall not be liable for any consequential, indirect, or incidental damages arising from hardware failure, including but not limited to lost revenue, business interruption, or data loss.
Returns & Replacements
Hardware is non-refundable unless received in a defective condition. If you receive defective hardware, contact us within 14 days of delivery with photographs and a description of the issue. We will arrange a replacement at no cost. Custom-branded hardware is non-returnable and non-refundable.
NFC Card Specifications
Piing NFC cards conform to the NFC Forum Type 2 Tag specification (NTAG 213/215/216). Cards are designed for indoor use and typical retail environments. Operating temperature range is -20°C to 70°C. Card lifespan under normal use is approximately 100,000 read cycles.
The Piing Tap Box uses the supplied power setup and requires a working network connection according to its installation guide. It is designed for indoor use, mounted at an entrance or sited beside a till. You assign each unit to one of your stores in the Piing app after delivery; units are not pre-assigned to a location before dispatch.
Firmware & Updates
NFC readers may receive firmware updates from time to time to improve performance, security, or compatibility. Updates are delivered over-the-air and may be applied automatically. Piing is not obligated to provide firmware updates beyond the warranty period, but will make reasonable efforts to maintain compatibility with current Piing platform versions.
