Analytics and reporting 3 / 4
Geographic reporting
Read the fixed 90-day country and city report, its physical-versus-digital holder table and its Protected Customer Data coverage.
The Geography report shows where recognised customers tap in and where card and pass holders are based. It uses a fixed 90-day window so the location view reflects recent activity.
Open Analytics, then Geography.
What it shows
- Tap-ins by country: accepted check-ins grouped by the country on the customer's default Shopify address.
- Top cities: the same recent tap-ins grouped one level further.
- Pass holders by country: distinct located holders split between physical cards and digital Wallet passes.
- Coverage: how many customers in the report had a usable default address.
The all-time Apple, Google and physical distribution totals live with Wallet distribution and pass-holder management. Geography keeps only the country-level physical-versus-digital split because that is part of the location question.
How location is resolved
Piing uses the default address on the Shopify customer record. Shopify classifies address data as Protected Customer Data.
For this report, Piing requests the required customer address fields, groups city and country in memory and returns aggregate counts. It does not persist each customer's city or country as a Piing analytics field.
Customers without a default address cannot be placed. The coverage line states how many were resolved so the table is not mistaken for the whole customer base.
If the report is unavailable
If the app does not have Shopify approval for the required Protected Customer Data, the geographic tables are hidden and the page explains why. Piing does not infer or substitute a location.
Contact contact@piing.io with your store domain and the status shown in the report. Piing handles the app’s access request; Shopify controls approval, which depends on the app and store context. Access is not guaranteed.
App developers can read Shopify’s Protected Customer Data guidance for the approval process.
Tap-in and pass totals that do not require addresses remain available elsewhere in Analytics and Wallet Studio.
Reading the holder table
The holder table is geographic, not a universal adoption split:
- it only includes holders with a resolvable Shopify address;
- physical and digital are shown within each country;
- the digital column combines Apple Wallet and Google Wallet for this report;
- a customer who carries more than one credential should not be assumed to represent one unique platform installation unless the screen explicitly says so.
