Award points on check-in
The reward relay, end to end: connect LoyaltyLion, Yotpo, Rivo or Antavo, choose what each visit earns, and follow every action in your own delivery log.
The reward relay is the part of Piing that turns a store visit into points in the loyalty programme you already run. Piing does not run its own programme: it records the visit against the member's account in LoyaltyLion, Yotpo, Rivo or Antavo, and your platform holds the balance. Reading a balance for a wallet pass never changes it; awarding is a separate switch, one per platform, and it starts off.
How the relay works
- Read first. Once connected, Piing reads the member's live points, tier and rewards to power the pass and the recognition screen. Reading never writes anything.
- Write by choice. Flip the awarding switch for a platform and each qualifying visit is recorded back to it, so the member's balance moves in the programme they already know.
- Logged as it lands. Every award attempt is written to a delivery log with the provider, points, reason and status, so you can see each action arrive rather than take it on trust.
What a visit can earn
Six triggers, each with its own switch and points value, and a test button beside each one:
- A qualified check-in
- A first store visit
- A purchase after a visit, within the attribution window
- A visit milestone, such as a fifth or tenth visit
- A first visit to a new store
- A wallet pass being installed
Qualified check-ins first pass the store's own cooldown and daily check-in limit. The default is one accepted check-in per customer, per store, per day, with a 15-minute cooldown, so a lift queue of repeated taps does not become a points printer. Other enabled triggers, such as a pass install or attributed purchase, remain separate actions.
Set it up end to end
- Install your loyalty platform's own Shopify app and confirm your programme is live, with members earning as normal.
- In your platform, create an API key with read access to customers and write access to customers or activities. The connect articles show exactly where this lives for each platform.
- In Piing, go to Integrations, open your platform's card and paste the key. Piing validates it immediately with a lightweight read; nothing is saved if the key is wrong.
- Open Configure and switch awarding on. It is off by default, so connecting alone never changes a balance.
- Tick the triggers you want, set the points value for each, and use the test button beside each one to fire a labelled test action.
- Launch. From the first real check-in, awards appear in the delivery log and the member's balance updates in your platform.
Watch it land
The reward relay screen keeps a running history of recent reward actions: provider, points, reason, status and attempts. A healthy install reads as a column of delivered actions. If a provider rejects an action or a key expires, the failure is shown with the reason rather than disappearing.
If something looks wrong
- Nothing awarding? Check the switch: awarding is off by default, per platform.
- Member not matched? Lookups are keyed on email, so the address in your store must match the one on their loyalty profile.
- Check-in points arriving once then stopping? Check the store's cooldown and daily check-in limit first, then the earning rule in your loyalty platform.
- Awards delivered but no balance change? For LoyaltyLion, confirm your store-visit activity rule is active, since the rule decides what the activity is worth.

The connect articles cover credentials and the first smoke test per platform: LoyaltyLion, Yotpo, Rivo and Antavo. For the wider picture of what flows in and out, read the integrations overview.
